Mariners Women travelled to Canberra this weekend to play competition leaders Canberra United.
This fixture ended up being a stop-start affair with the match being interrupted twice due to lightning storms in the area.
Canberra dominated the game early having chances that wer easily taken care of by our Mariners defence.
The only chance for the Mariners came in the 20th minute with an off target shot by Annabel Martin.
Mariners custodian Annalee Grove was called into action for an important save in the 36th minute, leaving the score at 0-0 at half-time.
The second half continued in the same manner as the first half finished until the 67th minute when the Mariners scored.
Isabel Gomez picked up a loose ball and made a perfect through ball pass that split the Canberra defence, finding Annalise Rasmussen. Annalise allowed the ball to roll into the penalty box, taking a first time shot that beat the Canberra goalkeeper at her near post.
This put our Mariners women in a great position, having not been beaten after scoring first since February 2025.
In the 81st minute Rasmussen turned from goalscorer to shot blocker when she prevented a goal to the home side.
After the match had been suspended for the second time at the 86th minutes and resumed, the home side went on the attack. They found an equaliser in the 89th minute.
This result temporarily takes the Mariners up to 3rd spot on the Ninja A-League ladder, awaiting results from matches to be played today.
The Mariners Women next play on Saturday, 27th December against Melbourne Victory. This match is to be played at polytec stadium with kick-off scheduled for 5pm AEDT.
