Honours were mixed in this weekend's matches for Mariners that were both scheduled to be part of a double header at polytec stadium.
This soon changed due to the Women's match against Newcastle that was scheduled for a 5pm kick-off on Saturday being re-scheduled to Sunday due to the excessive and dangerous heatwave conditions.
There was to be another change when around 7pm, being the scheduled kick-off time for the Men, saw a storm pass over the stadium. As this storm included lightning, kick-off for the Men's match against Sydney FC was ultimately re-scheduled for 8:30pm.
Once the Men's match started, both Mariners and Sydney Men appeared to be feeling each other out with no real chances at either end. The Mariners were playing towards the Southern end with a stiff breeze at their backs.
This changed in the 10th minute when Mariners' midfielder Bradly Tapp scored from a corner. Theoharous corner kick cleared the heads of a pack of players in the box, finding Tapp who had dropped back away from the pack. Tapp's volley was on target, taking a small deflection on the way.
The Mariners had another chance in 22nd minutes when McCalmont's shot from 20 metres out hit the crossbar.
Unfortunately, Sydney leveled the score to 1-1 when Sydney's Toure scored, somewhat against the run of play.
The Mariners again struck the crossbartwice in the 36th minute. Firstly a shot from Miguel Di Pizio and secondly Theoharous.
The match finished with a final score of 2-1 to Sydney after Campuzano scored in the 68th minute.
The Women's match started on Sunday as re-scheduled with Mariners Women coming from behind to win easily to a score of 4-1.
Newcastle scored first in the 22nd minute after ther Mariners dominated early.
Mariners' Annalise Rasmussen had a chance in the 42nd minute when her shot was a little wide. However, it only took another minute for Rasmussen to convert another opportunity after Peta Trimis played a great cross to Rasmussen in front of goal.
The second half started evenly with both side playing some great football with the Mariners having a goal for Isabel Gomez beingdisallowed .
Shortly after, a fantastic run through midfield by Greta Kraszula and a first through ball by Gomez saw the Mariners score next and again it was Rasmussen to convert, taking the score 2-1 to the Mariners.
Two substitutes for the Mariners were to take the score to the final 4-1 scoreline.
The first was Tamar Levin in the 78th minute. This was a Mariners debut for Levin who evaded two Jets defenders to calmly slot the ball home for the goal.
The last goal was scored by local Central Coast product and A-League debitant, 17 year old Eliza Familton. A through ball by Tarah King found Leven muscled the ball away Jets defenders in the direction of Familton. Eliza calmly controlled the ball and shot past the advancing Jets goalkeeper.
