The Mariners Women put up a brave effort in their Grand Final re-match on Saturday but unfortunately fell short, losing 1-0 to Melbourne Victory.

The starting line-up was unchanged from team that started the weekend before against Melbourne City, with a couple of changes on the bench with Isabel Gomez and Annabel Martin included.

The match started with the home side more likely to score. To the credit of the Mariners defensive unit, the Mariners were able to keep the score at 0-0 going into half-time.

It only took 10 minutes into the second half for the home side to score when Victory's Rachel Lowe beat an off-side trap. Credit goes to Mariner's goalkeeper Sarah Langman who came out to challenge and saved the shot by Lowe.

Unfortunately in saving that shot, the ball fell directly to Rhianna Pollicina who was celebrating her 100th match. Pollicina calmly controlled the ball whose shot found the back of the net before the retreating Mariners defense could get into position.

The Mariner's coaching staff made some changes in bringing Gomez and Rasmussen into the game at the expense of Prakash and dos Santos. Further Mariner's substitutions saw Tamar Levin, Annabel Martin and Tiana Fuller take the field.

The next match for the Mariner's Women is next Sunday, 23rd November against Sydney FC. The match is scheduled for a 4pm kick-off at Leichhardt Oval, Lilydale.
