Our Women's side returns home from New Zealand with all three points from their away fixture against Wellington Phoenix, winning 2 goals to nil.

The match started well for Wellington who were playing with a breeze at their backs, dominating play without creating any real opportunities to score that the Mariners defence could not handle.

The only real opportunity for a goal came from the Mariners in the 31st minute.  A corner taken by Taylor Ray found Isabel Gomez that beat the Wellington keeper but struck the crossbar.

The score would not remain at 0-0 going into half-time. In the 44th minute Peta Trimis was also denied a goal when a floating cross to her saw her header strike the crossbar.  However, as play continued Mariners' forward Annalise Rasmussen was brought down in the box and a penalty was awarded.  Rasmussen converted the penalty by sending the Wellington keeper the wrong way.

Score was 1-0 to the Mariners.

When the second half started, the Mariners would score their second goal in the 52nd minute.  A set piece from a corner resulted in a clearing header from a Wellington defender saw Isabel Gomez in the right place at the right time.  In a similar manner to the first half, Gomez struck the ball as it was rising with the Wellington keeper getting a hand to the ball but could not stop the ball from going into the net.

The Mariners had another opportunity in the 69th minute while at the other end Wellington's Manaia Elliott forced an excellent sabe from Mariners' Keeper Sarah Langman to keep the final score at 2-0.
