The Mariners Liberty A-League Women's team travelled to Perth to play the Glory at Macedonia Park. Mariners fans who stayed up late were not disappointed.
The game started brightly for the Mariners when in the 6th minute a superb cross from Faye Bryson found Kyah Simon. Kyah's header was destined for the bottom left-hand corner of the goal but somehow the Glory keeper Morgan Aquino pushed it wide.
Ten ninutes later the Mariners had another chance. Annabel Martin played a searching cross from the left that cleared all players and struck the right-hand upright.
Unfortunately in the 25th minute Perth were to take the lead when a pass to their striker Farrow resulted in her turning and scoring past Mariners goalkeeper Langman.
From there the highlight reels were all Mariners.
In the 44th minute, a Kyah Simon strike hit the right-hand upright but it would not be long before Kyah had her first goal of the season.
Two minutes later, a long ball from a free kick from the left found Kyah unmarked. Her glancing header found its way past that right-hand upright into the goal.
Half-time score was 1-all.
Wurigumal found herself in space in the 73rd minute with only the Glory keeper to beat. Unfortunately the keeper did her job.
In the same minute, Mariners Paige Hayward had a shot from outside the penalty box saved by the Glory keeper whose outstretched hand tapped the ball over the crossbar.
The Mariners kept pressuring the home side and in the 76th minute a surging run from Bianca Galic resulted in her long range shot from outside the penalty box find the back of the net.
The action did not stop there. A glory turn-over in their own half in the 83rd minute gave the Mariners another chance. Wurigumula collected the loose ball passing it to Alexia Karrys-Stahl who ultimately passed to Annalise Rasmussen. Annalise calmly controlled the ball and shot with the Glory keeper getting a touch on the shot. Unfortunately for Glory it was not enough to stop the ball from going into the goal.
A deserved 3-1 win for the visiting Mariners who now have a two week gap before their next match that will be on 3rd March at Industree Group Stadium against Adelaide United. Kick-off for that match is 4:00pm.
