This afternoon the Central Coast Mariners Men's A-League side played Wellington Phoenix in Wellington that ended in a goalless draw.
The starting eleven for the Mariners was the same side that defeated Adelaide United at the weekend while the Phoenix had a number of players returning from injury or suspension.
The Phoenix started the game stronger than the Mariners, dominating the possession statistics for the first 30 minutes. The Mariners started to work their way into the game from that point to make it a very even contest but with very few chances at either end.
The second half started in the same manner as the first with the home side again dominating possession while the Mariners worked their way into the game as the half progressed.
The best chance for the Mariners came in extra time for the second half. From a Doka corner, defender Brian Kaltak rose uncontested only for his header to go over the crossbar.
The draw leaves Wellington at the top of table with Mariners still in 2nd position.
The next game for the Mariner's Men is part of the double header this coming Saturday, 10th February 2024. Their opponent on Saturday is Sydney FC with kick-off scheduled for 7:45pm while the Mariner's Women play the earlier game starting at 5:00pm.
