The Mariners journey to Brisbane was a difficult one that started on Thursday afternoon when storms resulted in delays to scheduled flights to Brisbane that ultimately meant the team needed to stay in Sydney when flights were cancelled.
The team were able to make their way to Brisbane on the morning of the game and came away from Brisbane with all three points with a 2-1 win.
The Mariners took the lead in the 19th minute after the Mariners won a corner which saw both Sam Silvera and Storm Roux make unsuccessful shots at goal in a very crowded goal mouth area. Fortunately, the ball fell in front of Marco Túlio who slammed it into the top of the net to put the Mariners in front.
The Mariners lead was short-lived when in the 23rd minute the Roar were awarded a penalty after Túlio made contact with a Roar player. James O'Shea converted the penalty.
The scoreline stayed at 1-1 for the remainder of the half.
In the second half, the contest was fairly even with both sides having opportunites. The deadlock was broken in the 69th minute when the Mariners were awared a penalty of their own when Dan Hall was judged to have been fouled by Brisbane's Scott Neville in front of goal.
Béni N'Kololo stepped up to take the penalty sending the Brisbane goalkeeper to the left and slotting the ball into the goal to the right.
