Western Sydney Wanderers vs Central Coast Mariners at CommBank Stadium
Result: Western Sydney 0 - Mariners 3
Wanderers Demilished
In a game totally dominated by the away team, the Wanderers at Wanderland, were well beaten by the Mariners. The game opened in explosive fashion with a foul committed by the home side resulting in a yellow card after less than a minute.
Corner after corner were won by the Yellow and it was from one in the 12th minute that Brian Kaltak headed goalward. The attempt hit the corner of the goal frame.
There was only one team in it as shots rained in on the red and black goal. Despite all the effort the game remained scoreless at half time.
Two minutes into the second half, a superb long range pass from Nectarios Triantis found Jason Cummings in the clear who raced 40 metres forward only to get the ball stuck under his feet with the target within sight.
Within a minute the Wanderers mounted one of their few attacks on goal but the ball flew well over.
Garang Kuol and Michael Ruhs, half time substitutes, combined brilliantly for the latter to slot the ball in for goal number one.
Seven minutes later, in the 72nd, the same two players combined again to increase the lead. Ruhs showed a calm attitude to claim a two-goal lead.
Moments later Ruhs almost had in hattrick but an excellent one handed save by Thomas denied him.
Another sub, this time in Sam Silvera put the icing on the cake, after a sublime cut back by Cummings. Silvera hit a ‘daisy cutter’ with great power from the edge of the box giving Thomas no chance.
The excitement continued all the way into time added on for Cummings to be frustrated as his shot struck the post.
