Central Coast Mariners vs Adelaide United at Central Coast Stadium

Result: Mariners 3 – Adelaide 0

A game of two halves

After an extremely frustrating first half when the Mariners fired at goal without reward, the 3000 hardy fans were somewhat concerned that the game would get away.

During the first half, the Adelaide goalie was sent off in the 27th minute for bringing down Marcos Urena after Marcos attempted to round the keeper to score.

Once more missing inspirational captain Ollie Bozanic, Joshua Nisbet was playing the role of midfield general which was affected by frequent showers playing havoc with any attempt to play quality football.

As half-time approached, Beni N’Kololo worked a great chance but unfortunately slipped in the wet conditions at the vital moment. This meant that even though the Mariners had an extra man, the sides went into the dressing sheds at 0-0.

The second started started in much the same vain as the first but as the match progressed the Mariners started to take advantage of that numerical advantage.

Firstly, a powerful header was expertly tipped over the bar. Chance after chance was produced but the Reds goal was leading a charmed life.

The substitutes came into their own in the 77th minute with Lewis Miller raiding down the right flank, taking on and beating his marker. The resulting strong cross from Miller met a timely run from Urena who volleyed the ball in the first goal.

The second goal in the 91st minute came after a long ball from Urena in the midfield which eluded the Adelaide defence for Jason Cummings to control expertly before drawing the goalie and slotting home.

Two minutes later the Mariners with yet another long ball which found Mat Hatch sprinting through to seal the result of 3 – 0.

A great win under trying conditions which the positive goal difference could come in handy as the Mariners start to move up the table.
