To all members of the Central Coast Mariners Official Supporters Club (OSC),

The recent media interest and announcements in relation to the Central Coast Mariners FC negotiating a trial contract with Usain Bolt came as a surprise to the OSC Committee, as we are sure it was to our members. As a result, the OSC Committee has been heavily involved in communicating with both the club and a number of media outlets, whilst also monitoring social media channels, in order to gauge general fan sentiment in response to this unexpected development.

We acknowledge from social media channels that there is a mixture of reactions, ranging from positive opinions through to heavy scepticism, which is wholly understandable. The OSC Committee understands both viewpoints and is waiting to see how the proposed trial develops over the coming weeks, assuming of course, that this goes ahead.

The OSC will always be committed to supporting CCMFC in any endeavours that are genuinely aimed at improving the team’s performance and its engagement with Mariners fans and are therefore cautiously excited by the possible addition of such a high-profile sportsman onto the famous yellow and navy playing roster. In saying that, it is must be hoped that CCM Executives and Coaching staff see the possible inclusion of Usain as a worthwhile addition to the playing roster through him having the potential to not only heighten the profile of the Club but to bring the on-field results that all Mariners’ fans so clearly desire.

The OSC Committee will therefore continue to monitor the situation and will look to pass on any information from the club to members as appropriate, whilst of course welcoming feedback from our members, that can be shared with the club. From our initial conversations, we believe that the outcome of this extraordinary initiative will be primarily football and not commercially driven and provided this proves to be the case, we would urge our members and fans in general to give the coaching and technical staff their full support to whatever decision is ultimately arrived at.
