CCM's Ninja A-League Women's team remain unbeaten after travelling to Melbourne for the second weekend in a row.  This time their opponent was Melbourne City who were sitting top of the table going into the weekend's matches.

Conditions in Melbourne were hot and windy with the Mariners playing into strong winds in the first half.

It was the home side who would take advantage of that, scoring in the 3rd minute.  Alexia Apostolakis long range shot from outside the box found the top right hand corner of the Mariners goal.

The Mariners did not take long to equalise.  In the 5th minute the Mariners worked the ball forward and put pressure on the City defense.  A misguided pass from a City defender allowed Annalise Rasmussen to put pressure on their goalkeeper, gathering the ball and scoring into an uncontested open goal.

The score remained 1-1 until the 33rd minute when City was awarded a free kick in a dangerous position.  The free kick was taken by City's Lourdes Bosch with the kick eluding everyone including Mariner's keeper Sarah Langman.

Score was 2-1 to City at half-time.

The Mariners came into the the second half with the wind at their backs.  Mariners had a goal disallowed in the 53rd minute for off-side and continued to put pressure on City.

In the 76th minute the Mariners efforts were rewarded with a second equaliser.  A shot from Jade Pennock was saved by the City goalkeeper with the ball deflected directly to Isabel Gomez.  Gomez did well to convert the opportunity under pressure from several City defenders.

Both teams continued to put pressure on each other with chances that may have produced a winner.  However, the match finished at 2-2.

The Mariner's Women are next in action as part of the A-League's Unite Round on Saturday, 23rd November.  The match is against Melbourne Victory at Leichhardt Oval in Lilydale with kick-off scheduled for 2:15pm.
